You spend most of your life in your building and home. How can this environment be designed in the best possible way in terms of energy conservation?
Various factors, such as internal decoration, proper temperature, and air conditioning, adequate light, etc. have their own impact on our well-being. The main question is at what cost we can meet all these conditions at a home, as economic factors always put the constraint on the quality of such factors.
In this article, we are going to focus on how to minimize such costs by using some advanced methods and at the same time providing the highest level of quality.
In order to reach nearly zero energy consumption in energy-efficient buildings, these parameters should be considered:
1- How to do the Interior design in terms of the price, aesthetics and construction insulation.
2- How to meet energy conservation requirements in summer and winter.
3- How to use renewable energies and how to design renewable energy devices with the lowest price.
Calculation of these three factors for the energy conservation will provide a practical and good design for energy-efficient homes and Nearly Zero Energy Buildings.
The most important factor to reduce the energy consumption and save energy at a home is preventing the heat exchange between a building and its environment by making proper insulation. How do you do this? The least expensive method is using the best available materials with a small thickness combined with strong insulation.
While the cost of a medium-sized building with a wood veneer in interior design can be very high, the cost of the construction of a panel with a vacuum wall with a wooden coat can be very low. In practice, a vacuum box with a 3 cm thickness can create more than ten times thermal insulation than a normal wall and so you use much less amount of energy to heat or cool the house. Now, the question is, how can this vacuum wall be produced at a low price? Does this vacuum wall have sufficient strength or lifespan for energy-efficient buildings?
With the help of new technology used in energy-efficient homes, the possibility of achieving a Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) has turned into a reality. At the same time, it has now become possible to have a strong vacuum wall produced at a low price. It actually depends on the way you use new materials and bring them with permanent control for vacuum pressure inside the vacuum wall and to compensate for any problems or issues with appropriate methods. It can be done by using automation building technology.
Similar to the central control of lightings in many houses and dwellings, central control over the vacuuming of walls can also be implemented. When strong insulation is achieved, it would be possible to make any decorations for the walls. The use of LED glass panels with an adjustable index of refraction can cause the color of the walls to change arbitrarily. The cost of these walls is not high, and they can be considered as a new generation of decorations.
Due to their high efficiency in converting electricity into light, these walls reduce the heat and therefore do not have any thermal effects on the environment. It is important to know that the LED lights have 55-70 lumens per watt while the traditional lamps have only 13-18 lumens per watt and obviously, the remaining energy converts into the thermal energy. In order to achieve this in energy-efficient buildings, in addition to better wall insulation, using the automatic centralized control system maximize the saving of energy in lighting or ventilation.
In conventional control systems, when you switch on the light, electricity is connected to the lighting system through cables, whereas, in centralize control systems when you push the switch, it sends a signal to the central controller and this controller connects the line to the bulb. In these systems, such parameters as the presence of daylight as well as the presence of people in a room are considered in turning on the lights. The same system is used for HVAC and other activities in the building.
Renewable energy devices are normally installed in yards or on roofs; however, with a slight change, they can be also installed inside apartments and still have very high efficiency. With the new technology, small wind turbines can be used as sources of energy and also as decorative components for energy-efficient homes and apartments.
These small wind turbines can generate up to 100W or 150W. At nights, they produce enough power to light small landscapes outside buildings with the light produced by a few small LEDs.
The installation of PVs on the windows or walls of an apartment is also very common and with new technologies, the cost of installing these devices is becoming even lower.
Using renewable energies together with strong insulation with central control and the intelligent control technology which we can sometimes call it a centralized control system can lower the cost of installation and construction while providing an astatic decoration for the interior and exterior designs in a beautiful way. Implementation of such technologies will help us get our homes to nearly zero energy buildings model.
